1. What is a transformer?

A transformer is an electrically stationary device that transfers power from one circuit to another by increasing or decreasing the voltage as required on two coils connected magnetically without any electrical connection without changing the power and frequency.

There are three types of transformers namely-

1. Core type

2. Shell type

3. Spiral core type

Based on the procedure, the transformer is divided into three parts-

1. Step up transformer

2. Step down transformer

3. One to one transformer

Based on the application, the transformer is divided into four parts-

1. Power transformer

2. Distribution Transformer

3. Auto Transformer

4. Instrument Transformer

There are two types of instrument transformers-

1. Current transformer

2. Potential transformer

1. Indoor type transformer

2. Outdoor type transformer

3. Pole mounted transformer

Answer: Transformer is an electrical static device.
